Smooth and Shiny Basic Beanie – with stripes!

This beanie is made with double crochet stitches and two different types of yarn to create a striped effect.

These beanies were made with Lions Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling in Steel Blue and Old Stone

This is a great way to use up leftover yarn and make more beanies!

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

For version 1:

This beanie was made with Lions Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn in Steel Blue and Old Stone

Main Color is A and Stripes are with B

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – x-small, small, medium, large

With Color A, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc). Change to Color B

Row 6- 7 (Color B) – repeat row 5. Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 8 (Color A) – repeat row 5. Change to Color B (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 9-10 (Color B) – repeat row 5. Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 11 (Color A) – repeat row 5. Change to Color B (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 12-13 (Color B) – repeat row 5. Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 14 (Color A) – repeat row 5. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 15 (Color A) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)

For Version 2:

This beanie was made with Lions Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn in Steel Blue and Old Stone

Main Color is A and Stripes are with B

Row 4 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 (Color A) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc). Change to Color B

Row 6 (Color A) – repeat row 5.  Change to Color B (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 7 (Color B) – repeat row 5. Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 8-9 (Color A) – repeat row 5.  Change to Color B (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 10 (Color B) – repeat row 5.  Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 11-12 (Color A) – repeat row 5.  Change to Color B (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 13 (Color B) – repeat row 5.  Change to Color A (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
