Cow Beanie

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle 

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Using WHITE colored yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

SNOUT (make 1)

Using PINK colored yarn, Ch 5

Row 1 – (working stitches all around the chain) first 3 ch count as first dc and starting ch, dc in the 3rd ch (starting ch), dc in 4th ch, 5 dc in the 5th ch, dc in the 4th ch on the other side, 3 dc in 3rd ch, sl stitch to top of first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – (working stitches all around the chain) ch 2 (this is your first dc), 2 dc in the same st as joining, 3 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st, 3 dc in the next 3 dc, dc in the next 3 st, 3 dc in the next dc.  Join with st to the first dc and fasten off.  Leave long strand for sewing.  (24 dc)

EARS (make 2)

Using BLACK colored yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 5 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (6 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), then repeat {2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first st.   (9 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), then repeat {2 dc in next st, dc in the next 2 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first st and fasten off.  Leave long strand for sewing. (12 dc)

HORNS (make 2)

Using TAN colored yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of the row) and then 5 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first sc  (6 sc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of the row) and then sc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc  (6 sc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of the row) and then sc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc  (6 sc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of the row) and then sc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off.  Leave long strand for sewing.  (6 sc)

Putting it together:

• Sew snout in between rows 6-9
• Sew ears between rows 3-4
• Sew horns along row 2
• Puffy paint eyes between rows 5-6 and nostrils at center of the snout
