Smooth and Shiny HDC Mesh Striped Beanie

These beanies were made with LIon Brand Heartland yarn in Teal Heather (left) and Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn in Two Pines

This beanie is made with rows of HDc and ch 1 spaces (to create a mesh like effect) in between rows of double crochet in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – x-small, small, medium, large

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of this row), ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st, {ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st} all the way around to the end  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 3 (this counts as your first ch 1 and hdc of this row), hdc in first ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the st below, {hdc in next ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the next st below} all the way around to the end (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 8 – ch 2 ( this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end.  (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 9 – ch 2 ( this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end.  (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 10-17 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 6-9 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 10-13 (for XS and S) – repeat Rows 6-9 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 14-16 (for XS and S) – repeat Rows 6-8 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 17  (for XS and S) and Row 18 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
