Smooth and Shiny HDC Mesh Banded Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Red Heart Soft Essentials Yarn in Derby Stripe

This beanie is made with a band of 5 rows of HDc and ch 1 spaces (to create a mesh like effect) at the center of the hat using a size 5 (bulky) sized yarn.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – small, medium, large

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5  – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of this row), ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st, {ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st} all the way around to the end  (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 3 (this counts as your first ch 1 and hdc of this row), hdc in first ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the st below, {hdc in next ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the next st below} all the way around to the end (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 8-10 – repeat rows 6, 7, and 6 again  (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 11-13 (for S) and to 14 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 14 for S or Row 15 for M and L – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (40, 44, 48 sc)
