Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in a solid color (Color A) and a variegated color (Color B) of your choice
BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)
Starting with Color A, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – (Color A) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)
Row 2 – (Color A) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc)
Row 3 – (Color A) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)
Row 4 – (Color A) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)
Row 5 – (Color A) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)
Row 6-7 – (Color A) repeat row 5 (44 dc). Then change to Color B.
Row 8-10 – (Color B) repeat row 5 (44 dc).
Row 11 – (Color B) ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (44 dc)
EARS (make 2 in Color A)
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 5 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (6 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing. (9 dc)
Eyes (make 2 in White)
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing. (24 dc)
Beak (make 1 in Orange)
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 5 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (6 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing. (9 dc)
Putting it together:
- Sew the ears between rows 2-3
- Sew the eyes between rows 4-9, making sure that they touch in the middle
- Sew the beak between the eyes, just under where they meet, somewhere between rows 8- 9
- Puffy paint the sleepy eyes as shown in the photo.
