Sometimes, a Size 6 (super bulky) yarn can feel like a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or vice versa. Here is a variation of our pattern for a Thick and Toasty HDC Mesh Banded Beanie made with either a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or a Size 6 (super bulky) that really should have been labeled a Size 5

This beanie is made with 5 rows of HDc and ch 1 spaces (to create a mesh like effect) at the center of the hat using a bulky (size 5 or thin size 6) yarn.
Stitches used:
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stich
st – stitch
Using a thick size 5 yarn or thin size 6 (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc)
Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)
Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc (48 dc)
Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc (48 dc)
Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of this row), ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st, {ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st} all the way around to the end (48 stitches)
Row 7 – ch 3 (this counts as your first ch 1 and hdc of this row), hdc in first ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the st below, {hdc in next ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the next st below} all the way around to the end (48 stitches)
Row 8-10 – repeat rows 6 and 7 (48 stitches)
Row 11-13 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc (48 dc)
Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (48 sc)
