Reno Bunny Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Cafe and Aran

We live in Reno, Nevada and we see these cute little brown bunnies with cream colored bushy tails all around us. We call them the Reno Brown Bunnies!

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

2dctog – yarn over (YO) and insert hook into first st and pull yarn through one loop, YO and pull yarn through two loops, YO and insert hook into the next st and pull yarn through one loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through remaining three loops on the hook.

YO – yarn over

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in LIGHT BROWN  (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 sc)

EARS (Make 2) 

Using LIGHT BROWN yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then 5 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (6 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (8 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), dc in the same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, CHANGE TO OFF WHITE YARN, 2 dc in the next st, CHANGE TO LIGHT BROWN YARN, dc in the next 3 st.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (10 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), dc in the next 3 st, CHANGE TO OFF WHITE YARN,  dc in the next 3 st, CHANGE TO LIGHT BROWN YARN, dc in the next 3 st.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (10 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), dc in the next 3 st, CHANGE TO OFF WHITE YARN,  dc in the next 3 st, CHANGE TO LIGHT BROWN YARN, dc in the next 3 st.  Join with st to the first dc and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (10 dc)

TAIL (Make 1)

Using OFF WHITE yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st.  Join with sl st to first dc. (15 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), 2dctog over the next two stitches all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (8 dc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew Ears in between Rows 2-4 on each side, with multicolored side facing frontwards
  • Sew Tail in between Rows 8-9 on the back of the beanie, equidistant between each ear.
