Smooth and Shiny Double V Stitch Striped Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Red Heart Soft Essentials yarn in Biscuit.

This beanie is made by alternating rows of Double V stitches and double crochet in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Double V-stitch – 2 double crochet, ch 1, 2 double crochet into same space

sk st – skip stitch 

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – small, medium, large

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, Double V stitch in next st, then repeat {sk next 2 stitches, Double V stitch in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk st, dc in the next st, dc in the ch 1 space, sk st, dc in the next st, then repeat {sk st, dc in the next st, dc in the ch 1 space, sk st, dc in the next st} all the way around.  (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 8 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each stitch of the row below to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 9-11 (for S) and to Row 13 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 6,7,8 (40, 44, 48 stitches)

Row 12 (for S) and to Row 14 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (40, 44, 48 sc)

TIP:  Have extra spaces due to sizing?  Fill them with dc in each space.  Just make sure you keep the total number of stitches consistent for each round to maintain sizing.
