Smooth and Shiny V Stitch/Double V Stitch Combination Beanie

These beanies are made with Loops and Thread Soft and Shiny yarn in Ginger Peach (left) and Lavender Fields (right)

This beanie is made with V stitch and Double V stitch intermixed in the body of the hat.  

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Double V-stitch – 2 double crochet, ch 1, 2 double crochet into same space

V-stitch – double crochet, ch 1, double crochet into same space

sk st – skip stitch 

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – x-small, small, medium, large

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, Double V stitch in next st, then repeat {sk next 2 stitches, V stitch in the next st, sk next 2 stitches, Double V in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), V stitch into ch 1 space of the Double V stitch in the row below and repeat {Double V stitch into the ch 1 space of the V stitch in the row below, V stitch into the ch 1 space of the Double V stitch in the row below} to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 8 ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), Double V stitch into ch 1 space of the V stitch in the row below and repeat {V stitch into the ch 1 space of the Double V stitch in the row below, Double V stitch into the ch 1 space of the V stitch in the row below} to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 9-13 (for XS and S) and to Row 15 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 7 and 8  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 14 (for XS and S) and Row 16 (for M and L)ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, dc in the ch 1 space, dc in the next st, then repeat {dc in the next st, dc in the ch 1 space, dc in the next st} all the way around.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 15 (for XS and S) and Row 17 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)

TIP:  Have extra spaces due to sizing?  Fill them with dc in each space.  Just make sure you keep the total number of stitches consistent for each round to maintain sizing.
