Fun Apples Beanies

Looking for some fun variations on our basic Apple Beanie? Check these out:

These beanies are made with Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cherry Red, Spring Green, Coffee, White, Buff, and Cafe.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

tr – triple crochet

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Worm in an Apple Beanie

This pattern is made using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle 

BEANIE (7.5” high and 16” flat diameter)

In BROWN yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 1 and then 4 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first sc.  (4 sc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc into the back loop of each sc all the way around.  (4 dc)  Change to RED yarn.

Row 3 (in RED) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), 2 dc into the front loop of the same st as joining, and then 3 dc into the front loop of each sc all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 8-13 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

LEAF (make 1)

Using GREEN yarn, Ch 10

Row 1 – sc in second ch from the hook, hdc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st, tr in the next st, dc in the next 2 st, hdc in the next st, 3 sc in the next st, and now working on the backside of the chain, hdc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st, tr in the next st, dc in the next 2 st, hdc in the next st, 2 sc in the last st.  Join with sl st to the first sc, fasten off, and leave long tail for sewing.  (20 stitches)

WORM HOLE (make 1) 

Using DARK BROWN yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc, fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. (12 dc)

WORM (make 1)

Using LIGHT BROWN yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), and then 5 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (6 sc).
Row 2 – ch 4, then sc in the second ch from the hook, sc in the next 2 ch, and the sl st to the next st in the row below.  Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.  (9 st)

Putting it together:

  • – Sew Leaf in between Rows 2-3
  • – Sew Worm and Worm Hole between Rows 9-11

Bite out of the Apple Beanie

This pattern is made using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 8-13 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

Using GREEN yarn, Ch 10

BITE MARK (make 1)

Using WHITE yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sc in the next st, sk the next st, 4dc in the next st, sk the next st, sc in the next 2 st, 2 sc in the next 2 st, sk the next st, 4 dc in the next st, sk the next st, sc in the next st.  Join with sl st to the first sc, fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.  (15 st)

Putting it together:

  • Sew Leaf in between Rows 2-3
  • Sew Bite mark between 8-12
  • Puffy paint with WHITE teeth embellishments over BITE MARK and write CRUNCH next to BITE MARK

TIP: you can switch the colors of the apples any way you like!
