Smooth and Shiny Rows of Puffed V Stitch Beanie

This beanie is made with Lion brand heartland yarn in Cuyahoga Valley

This beanie is made with rows of  Puffed V stitch in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

Puffed V-stitch – Puff stitch, ch 1, Puff stitch into the same space

sk st – skip stitch 

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Follow sizing in order of total stitch numbers listed in parentheses: (x-small, small, medium, large)

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in next st, Puffed V stitch over the next 3 stitches, then repeat {dc in the next 3 stitches, Puffed V stitch over the next three stitches} all the way to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, Puffed V stitch into the ch 1 space of the Puffed V stitch below, and repeat {dc in the next 3 st, Puffed V stitch into the ch 1 space of the Puffed V stitch below} all the way around (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 8-12 (for x-small and small) or Row 8-13 (for medium and large) – repeat Row 7 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 13 (for x-small and small) or Row 14 (for medium and large) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 14 (for x-small and small) or Row 15 (for medium and large) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)

TIP:  Have extra spaces due to sizing?  Fill them with dc in each space.  Just make sure you keep the total number of stitches consistent for each round to maintain sizing.
