Santa Beanie

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle 

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Using RED colored yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-7 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 8 – change to BLACK yarnch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 9 – change to RED yarn – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 10 – change to WHITE yarn – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 11 – change to ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

BUCKLE (make 1)

Using GOLD or MUSTARD  colored yarn, Ch 10

Row 1 – counting the first 2 ch as the first dc of this row, dc into the third ch from the start, and dc in to each ch to the end.  (8 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc into the next st, ch 4 and skip 4 st in the row below, dc in the next two dc.  (8 stitches)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc into the next st and each st to the end.  Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing.  (8 dc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew the buckle between rows 7-9, front and center on the beanie, with the hole of the buckle overlapping the black in row 8.
  • Cut 20 x 3 inch long strands of WHITE yarn, tie together at the center, and then attach to top of beanie as a pom pom.
