Smooth and Shiny Criss Cross Stripe Beanie

This beanie is made with rows of Criss Cross stitches alternating with rows of double crochet stitches in the body of the hat..

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next st, then dc in the st skipped

sl st – slip stitch

sk st – skip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by order of numbers in parentheses: (x-small, small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row, criss cross stitch over the next 2 stitches, then criss cross stitch all the way to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 – repeat Row 5 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Rows 8-13 (for XS and S) or Rows 8-15 (for M and L) – repeat row 6 and 7 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 14 for XS and S ONLY – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 15 (for XS and S) or Row 16 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
