Horse Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart super saver yarn in Buff and Coffee

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in LIGHT BROWN  (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

EARS (Make 2) 

Using LIGHT BROWN yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then 3 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc. (4 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (8 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. (12 dc)

SNOUT (Make 1)

Using LIGHT BROWN yarn, ch 5 and work the rounds around the chain.

Row 1 – count the first 2 ch as the first dc of this row, dc in the next ch, 5 dc in the next ch, then working on the opposite side of the chain, dc in the next ch, 4 dc in the next ch.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as our first dc of this round), dc in the next 2 st, 2 dc in the next 3 st, dc in the next 3 st, 2 dc in the next 3 st.  Join with sl st to first dc, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (24 dc) 

MANE (Make 1)

Using DARK BROWN yarn, ch 47

Row 1 – dc in the 3rd ch from start, dc in the next 2 ch, sk 1 st and sl st in the next st, ch 5, dc in the 3rd ch from the start, dc in the next 2 ch, sk 1 and sl st in the next st, then repeat {ch 5, dc in the 3rd ch from the start, dc in the next 2 ch, sk 1 and sl st in the next st} all the way around on both sides of the chain.  Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  

Putting it together:

  • Sew Ears in between Rows 3-4 on each side
  • Sew Snout in between Rows 6-10.
  • Sew Mane starting from front of the beanie at Row 3 all the way along the back of the beanie to row 11.
  • Puffy paint eyes above the shout on Row 5
