Smooth and Shiny Spike Stitch Cuff Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Red Heart Soft Essentials yarn in Purple Reign Stripe and Eggplant.

This beanie is made with two rows of spike stitches at the cuff of the beanie.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet 

ldc – long double crochet 

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by color – small, medium, large

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6-9 – repeat Row 5  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 10 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, ch 1 and sk st, then repeat {dc in the next 3 st, ch 1 and sk st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 11 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, ldc in the next st, dc in the next st, ch 1 and sk st, then repeat {dc in the next st, ldc in the next st, dc in the next st, ch 1 and sk st} all the way around to the end.   Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 12 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, ch1 and sk st, dc in the next st, ldc in the next st, the repeat {dc in the next st, ch1 and sk st, dc in the next st, ldc in the next st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 13 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next st, ldc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st, the repeat {ldc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (40, 44, 48 sc)

Want to make the cuff of spike stitches stand out? Use a different colored yarn for Rows 11-12.
