Smooth and Shiny Lacey Granny Stitch Beanie

This beanie is made with Caron Simply Soft yarn in Honeycomb


This beanie is made with stitches of a granny square in a lacey pattern in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

granny stitch – 3 double crochet in the same space

sl st – slip stich

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by order in parentheses – (x-small, small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next stitch and all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 4 (this counts as your first sc and ch 3), skip 2 st, sc in the next stitch, then repeat {ch 3, sk 2 st, sc in the next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), granny stitch in the first ch 3 space, skip next sc, then {granny stitch in each ch 3 space all the way around} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 8 – ch 4 (this counts as your first sc and ch 3), sc in space between next two granny stitches, then repeat {ch 3, scin space between next two granny stitches} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Rows 9 – 15 (for XS and S) or Rows 9-17 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 7 and 8   (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 16 (for XS and S) and Row 18 (for M and L) –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 17 (for XS and S) and Row 19 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
