Half Hatched Easter Egg Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Lemon, Aruba Sea, Spring Green, and Pumpkin

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

sk st- skip stitch

st – stitch

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle 

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Using YELLOW colored yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6- 8 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 9 – change to BLUE colored yarn and work on the FRONT LOOPS of the row below, ch 4, hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc in the 4th ch from the hook, skip 2 st, sc in the next st, and then repeat {ch 4, hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc in the 4th ch from the hook, skip 2 st, sc in the next st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first sc.  

Row 10 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 11 – change to GREEN colored yarn, ch 3 (this counts as your first dc of this row plus first ch), sk next st, Puff stitch in next st, ch 1, then repeat {sk 1 st, Puff stitch in the next st, ch 1} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (44 st)

Row 12 – change to BLUE colored yarn, ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 13 – change to ORANGE colored yarn, ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 sc)

BEAK (make 1)

Using ORANGE colored yarn, ch 4, hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc in the 4th ch from the hook.  Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Putting it together:

  • Sew BEAK over Rows 6
  • Puffy paint EYES over Rows 5
  • Cut five 3 inch long strands of YELLOW yarn and sew over top of beanie as a hair tuft.
