Thick and Toasty Stripes of Peace and Hugs Beanie (for when the yarn varies)

Sometimes, a Size 6 (super bulky) yarn can feel like a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or vice versa. Here is a variation of our pattern for a Thick and Toasty Stripes of Peace and Hugs Beanie made with either a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or a slender Size 6 (super bulky) yarn.

This beanie is made with Caron Colorama O’go yarn in Concord Crush

This beanie is made with rows of v stitch (peace)  and puff stitches (hugs) the body of the beanie.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet 

V-stitch – double crochet, ch 1, double crochet into same space

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 5 yarn (bulky) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle to make a large beanie (20 inch circumference and 9 inch high)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 10 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (11 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (22 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (33 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5  – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first hdc (44 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, V stitch in next st, then repeat {sk next 2 stitches, V stitch in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), criss cross stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (44 dc)

Row 8 – ch 3 (this counts as your first dc of this row plus first ch), sk next st, Puff stitch in next st, ch 1, then repeat {sk 1 st, Puff stitch in the next st, ch 1} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (44 stitches)

Row 9-12 – repeat Rows 5-9 (44 stitches)

Row 13 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first hdc (44 dc)

Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (44 sc)
