Thick and Toasty Peace, Love, and Hugs Beanie

This beanie is made with v stitch (peace), criss cross stitch (love), and puff stitches (hugs) side by side in rows over the body of the beanie.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet 

V-stitch – double crochet, ch 1, double crochet into same space

Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next st, then dc in the st skipped

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 6 yarn (super bulky) with a N-15 (10 mm) needle to make a large beanie (18-19 inch circumference and 9 inch high)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (9 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (18 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (27 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (36 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, V stitch in next st, sk 1 stitch, criss cross over the next 2 stitches, puff stitch in the next st, then repeat {sk 1 stitch, V stitch in the next st, sk 1 st, criss cross over the next 2 st, puff stitch in the next st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (36 stitches)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each stitch of the row below to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (36 dc)

Row 7-10 –  repeat Rows 5-6 (36 stitches)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (36 sc)
