Smooth and Shiny Peace, Love, and Hugs Variation 1 Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Red Heart Soft Essentials in Cocoa

This beanie is a variation of our peace, love, and hugs beanie, where you have rows of v stitch (peace) and criss cross stitch (love), criss cross stitch (love) and puff stitches (hugs), and v stitch (peace) and puff stitches (hugs) over the body of the beanie.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet 

V-stitch – double crochet, ch 1, double crochet into same space

Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next st, then dc in the st skipped

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by order in parentheses – (small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, V stitch in next st, sk next stitch, criss cross stitch over the next 2 st, then {sk 1 st, V stitch in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, criss cross stitch over the next 2 st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Rows 8 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), criss cross stitch over the next 2 st, puff stitch in the next st, then {criss cross stitch over the next 2 st, puff stitch in the next st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 9 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 10 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, V stitch in next st, sk next stitch, puff stitch in the next st, then {sk 1 st, V stitch in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, puff stitch in the next st} all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 11 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 12-13 – repeat Rows 6-7 (40, 44, 48 st)

Row 14 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 15 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (40, 44, 48 sc)
