Smooth and Shiny Triple Criss Cross Striped Beanie

This beanie is made with Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn in Two Pines

This beanie is made with rows of triple Criss Cross stitches alternating with rows of double crochet stitches in the body of the hat..

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

ldc – long double crochet

Triple Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next 3 st, then ldc in the st skipped

Sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by order of numbers in parentheses: (x-small, small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row, triple criss cross stitch over the next 4 stitches, then triple criss cross stitch all the way to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 7 – repeat Row 5 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Rows 8-15 – repeat row 6 and 7 (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 16 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
