Smooth and Shiny Waffle Stitch Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made by intertwining Yarn Grobhandel Hamburg Maxima yarn in Deep Moss with Plucky Knitter Primo yarn in Reno Nights

This beanie is made by alternating Front Post Double Crochet stitches, Double Crochet stitches, and Back Post Double Crochet stitches to make the body look like a waffle.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

FPdc – front post double crochet

BPdc – back post double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by number in parentheses – (small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the next stitch, FPdc in the next stitch, then repeat {dc in the next two stitches, FPdc in the next stitch} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), BPdc in the next stitch, FPdc in the next stitch, thn repeat {BPdc in the next two stitches, FPdc in the next stitch} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 7-19 (for S) and Row 7-21 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 5, 6 (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 20 (for S) and Row 22 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in next stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 21 (for S) and Row 23 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (40, 44, 48 dc)
