Smooth and Shiny Falling Leaves Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Lion Brand Landscapes yarn in Volcano

This beanie is made by alternating sets of Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet to create a look of falling leaves through the beanie.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

FPdc – front post double crochet

BPdc – back post double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by number in parentheses – (small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 5 st, then repeat {BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 5 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), BPdc in the next st, FPdc in the next 3 stitches, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 3 st , then repeat {BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 3 st, BPdc in the next 2 stitches, FPdc in the next 3 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), FPdc in the next 5 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st, then repeat {FPdc in the next 5 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 8-9 – repeat Row 7 (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 10 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), BPdc in the next st, FPdc in the next 3 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 3 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, then repeat {FPdc in the next 3 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 3 st, BPdc in the next 2 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 11 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 5 st, BPdc in the next 2 st, then repeat {FPdc in the next st, BPdc in the next 2 st, FPdc in the next 5 st, BPdc in the next 2 st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 12-13 – repeat Row 11 (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 14-21 (for XS and S) and Row 14-22 (for M and L) – repeat Row 5-13 (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 22 (for XS and S) and Row 23 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in next stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 23 (for XS and S) and Row 24 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (40, 44, 48 dc)
