Thick and Toasty HDC Mesh Striped Beanie

This beanie is made with Lion Brand Hometown yarn in Fort Worth Blue

This beanie is made with rows of HDc and ch 1 spaces (to create a mesh like effect) in between rows of double crochet in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 6 yarn (super bulky) with a N-15 (10 mm) needle to make a large beanie (20 inch circumference and 9 inch high)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 8 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (9 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (18 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (27 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (36 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of this row), ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st, {ch 1 and skip the st below, hdc in the next st} all the way around to the end  (36 stitches)

Row 6 – ch 3 (this counts as your first ch 1 and hdc of this row), hdc in first ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the st below, {hdc in next ch 1 space below, ch 1 and skip the next st below} all the way around to the end (36 stitches)

Row 7 – ch 2 ( this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end.  (36 dc)

Row 8-10 – repeat Rows 5-7 (36 stitches)

Row 11-12 – repeat Rows 5-6 (36 stitches)

Row 13 –  ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of this row), hdc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first hdc and fasten off. (36 hdc)
