Sometimes, a Size 6 (super bulky) yarn can feel like a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or vice versa. Here is a pattern for our Thick and Toasty Hourglass Granny Stitch Beanie made with either a Size 5 (bulky) yarn or a thin Size 6 (super bulky). This beanie is made with rows of granny square stitches in the body of the hat, right side up and upside down, creating the shape of an hourglass.
Stitches used:
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sk st – skip stitch
granny stitch – 3 double crochet in the same space
3dctog – crochet 3 double stitches together
sl st – slip stitch
st – stitch
YO – yarn over
Using size 5 yarn (bulky) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle to make a large beanie (18-19 inch circumference and 9 inch high)
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)
