Walrus Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe, Buff, Coffee, and White

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in BROWN  (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

SNOUT (Make 1)

Using LIGHT BROWN, ch 5

Row 1 – 2 dc in 3rd ch (first 2 ch count as your first dc of this row), dc in next ch, 5 dc at the end ch, dc in next ch (working on the opposite side of chain), and 2 dc in next ch.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of the row), 2 dc in the same st as joining, 3 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 st, 3 dc in the next 3 st, dc in the next 3 st, 3 dc in the next st.  Join with sl st to the first dc and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (24 dc)

TUSK (Make 2)

Using WHITE, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then 4 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (5 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), 2dc in the next st, 1 dc in next st, 2dc in next st, and 1 dc in the next st.  Join with sl st to first dc (7 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), and then dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc and fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.  (7 dc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew Snout over Rows 6-9
  • Sew Tusks symmetrically over Snout at Row 8
  • Sew Brown yarn as a nose over center top of Snout
  • Puffy paint eyes over Row 5, symmetrically over the sides of Snout.
