Tiger Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Carrot, Black and White.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

2dctog – YO and insert needle into st, YO and pull yarn through loop, YO and pull yarn through 2 loops, YO and insert needle into next st, YO and pull yarn through 2 loops, YO and pull through remaining 3 loops.

YO – yarn over

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in ORANGE (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc).  Change to BLACK yarn.

Row 5 (in BLACK) – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first sc. (44 sc).  Change to ORANGE yarn.

Row 6 (in ORANGE) –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc).  Change to BLACK yarn.

Row 7 (in BLACK) –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc).  Change to ORANGE yarn.

Row 8 (in ORANGE) –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc).  Change to BLACK yarn.

Row 9 (in BLACK) – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first sc. (44 sc).  Change to ORANGE yarn.

Row 10 (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc).  Change to BLACK yarn.

Row 11 (in BLACK) –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc).  Change to ORANGE yarn.

Row 12 (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc). 

Row 13 (in ORANGE) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 sc)

EARS (Make 2) 

Using ORANGE yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (12 dc)

Row 2  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), 1 dc in the same st as joining, then, repeat {dc in the next 3 st, 2 dc in the next st} all the way around.  (15 dc)

Row 3  (in ORANGE) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round), dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2dctog, dc in the next 3 st) all the way around.  (12 dc)  Change to WHITE yarn.

Fold EAR flat and work next two rounds around the the ear, keeping the base open.

Row 4 (in WHITE) –  ch 2 ( this counts as your first sc of this round), 15 sc all around the ear, leaving the base open.  (16 sc) 

Row 5 (in BLACK) – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this round), 15 sc in each st all around the ear.  Join with sl st to the first sc and fasten off.  (16 sc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew Ears in between Rows 3-5 on each side
