Smooth and Shiny Puff Stitch Cuff Beanie

This beanie is made with Red heart Essentials yarn in Watercolors

This beanie is made with a cuff of Puff stitches at the edge of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

sk st – skip stitch 

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Follow sizing in order of total stitch numbers listed in parentheses: (x-small, small, medium, large)

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6 – 9 (for XS and S) or to Row 10 (for M and L) – repeat Row 5  (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 10 (for XS and S) or Row 11 (for M and L) – ch 3 (this counts as your first dc of this row plus first ch), sk next st, Puff stitch in next st, ch 1, then repeat {sk 1 st, Puff stitch in the next st, ch 1} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 11 (for XS and S) or Row 12 (for M and L)  – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), Puff st into the first ch 1 space, ch 1,  sk next st, Puff stitch into next ch 1 space, and repeat {ch 1, sk next st, Puff stitch into the next ch 1} all the way around (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 12 (for XS and S) or Row 13 (for M and L) – repeat Row 11 (for XS and S) or Row 12 (for M and L)  (48, 52, 56, 60 stitches)

Row 13 (for XS and S) or Row 14 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 14 (for XS and S) or Row 15 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
