
This beanie is made with rows of Puff stitches at the cuff of the hat.
Stitches used:
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
Puffed stitch –
ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops
sk st – skip stitch
sl st – slip stitch
st – stitch
Hat Sizes:
Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference
Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference
Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference
Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.
Follow sizing in order of total stitch numbers listed in parentheses: (S, M, L)
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11) dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc)
Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)
Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)
Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)
Row 6-8 (for S) and to Row 9 (for M and L) – repeat Row 5 (40, 44, 48 dc)
Row 9 (for S) or Row 10 (for M and L) – ch 3 (this counts as your first dc of this row plus first ch), sk next st, Puff stitch in next st, ch 1, then repeat {sk 1 st, Puff stitch in the next st, ch 1} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 stitches)
Row 10 (for S) or Row 11 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), Puff st into the first ch 1 space, ch 1, sk next st, Puff stitch into next ch 1 space, and repeat {ch 1, sk next st, Puff stitch into the next ch 1} all the way around (40, 44, 48 stitches)
Row 11 (for S) or Row 12 (for M and L) – repeat row 10 (40, 44, 48 stitches)
Row 12 (for S) or Row 13 (for M and L) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)
Row 13 (for S) or Row 14 (for M and L) ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (40, 44, 48 sc)
TIP: Have extra spaces due to sizing? Fill them with dc in each space. Just make sure you keep the total number of stitches consistent for each round to maintain sizing.
