Thick and Toasty Puff Stitch Cuff Beanie

This beanie is made with rows of skinny puff stitches at the cuff of the hat.  Skinny puff stitches work better with those super bulky yarns.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Skinny Puff stitch – YO and insert hook into the space below, pull loop through space, pull through 2 loops on hook, YO and insert hook in the the space below again, pull loop through space, YO and pull through 2 loops on hook, then YO again and pull through last 2 loops on hook

sk st – skip stitch 

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

YO – yarn over

Using size 6 yarn (super bulky) with a N15 (10 mm) needle to make a large beanie (18-19 inch circumference and 9 inch high)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), sk next st, {Skinny Puff Stitch in the next st, ch 1 and skip st below} and repeat to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 st) 

Row 8 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), skinny puff st in the next st, ch 1 and sk next st, then repeat {Skinny Puff Stitch in the ch 1 space of row below, ch 1 and skip st below} and repeat to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 st) 

Row 9 – repeat Row 8 (40 st)

Row 10  – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc (40 dc)

Row 11– ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (40 sc)
