ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Puffed stitch –

ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in BROWN 

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), puff stitch in the next sp, ch 1 and sk next st, then repeat {puff stitch in the next st, ch 1 and sk next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (44 stitches)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), ch 1 and sk st below, puff stitch in the ch 1 space below, then repeat {ch 1 and sk st below, puff stitch in the ch 1 space below} all the way around (44 stitches)

Row 7-10 – repeat rows 5 and 6  (44 stitches)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 sc)

EARS (make 2 in LIGHT BROWN)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 5 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (6 dc)

FACE (make 1 in LIGHT BROWN)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), and then 3 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (4 sc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), 2 sc in the next st, then repeat {1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (6 sc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), 2 sc in the next st, then repeat {1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (9 sc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), WORKING IN THE BACK LOOP OF THE ROW BELOW, sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st, then repeat {1 sc in the next 2 st, 2 sc in the next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (12 sc in the back loops)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (24 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), 2 dc in the next st, and then repeat {1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st} all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (36 dc)

Putting it together:

• Sew FACE between Rows 5-10
• Sew EARS symmetrically on each side of face between Rows 5-6
• Puffy pain nose at tip of FACE piece, and then eyes and mouth as you desire.
