Snaz up our basic beanie with our sunflower appliqué!

First, we start with our basic beanie pattern:
Stitches used:
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st – stitch
Hat Sizes:
X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference
Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference
Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference
Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference
Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.
Follow sizing by order of numbers in parentheses – (x-small, small, medium, large)
Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14) dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc)
Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)
Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 6-14 – repeat row 5
Row 15 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
Then, we crochet our sunflower:

This flower uses 2 different colors – Color A (for center) and Color B ( for petals)
Using COLOR A, ch 4 and loop to make a ring
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as the first sc of this row), 5 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to first sc. (6 sc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sc into the same st as joining, then 2 sc into each st all the way around. Join with sl st to to first sc. (12 sc)
Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), 2 sc into the next st, then repeat {1 sc in the next st, 2 sc into the next st} all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc. (18 sc)
Row 4 – working in the BACK LOOPS (bl) of Row 3, ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), 2 sctog over the next 2 st, then repeat {sc in the next st, 2 sctog over the next 2 st} all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc. (18 stitches)
Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row) and sk next st, 2 sctog all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc. (12 stitches)
Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sk next st, 2 sctog all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc. ch 2 and then sl st back to FRONT LOOP (fl) of Row 3 (6 st)
Row 7 – change to COLOR B – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row, then {dc, ch 1, 2 dc} into the same st as joining and then {2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc} into each st all the way around. Fasten off. (90 st)
Sew the Sunflower Applique onto your beanie anywhere you like! We like it to the side, over Rows 8-14.
