Thick and Toasty Combination Criss Cross Striped Beanie

This beanie is made with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn in Eden

This beanie is made with rows of single, double, and triple Criss Cross stitches alternating with rows of double crochet stitches in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

ldc – long double crochet

Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next st, then dc in the st skipped

Double Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the 2 next st, then ldc in the st skipped st

Triple Criss cross stitch – sk 1 st and dc in the next 3 st, then ldc in the st skipped

Sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 6 yarn (super bulky) with a N-15 (10 mm) needle to make a large beanie (18-19 inch circumference and 9 inch high)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (9 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (18 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (27 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (36 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row, criss cross stitch over the next 2 stitches, then criss cross stitch all the way to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (36 st)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each stitch of the row below to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (36 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row, double criss cross stitch over the next 3 stitches, then double criss cross stitch all the way to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (36 st)

Row 8 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each stitch of the row below to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (36 dc)

Row 9 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), triple criss cross stitch over the next 4 stitches, then triple criss cross stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (36 stitches)

Row 10 –  ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each stitch of the row below to the end.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (36 dc)

Row 11-12 – repeat Rows 5 and 6 (36 stitches)

Row 13 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off (36 sc)
