Smooth and Shiny Carnation Applique Beanie

Snaz up our basic beanie with our Carnation flower appliqué!

This beanie is made with Lion Brand Basic Stitch yarn in Plum and flower in Strawberry Twist

First, we make our basic beanie:

This beanie is made with double crochet stitches with a single crochet edge at the end.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by order of numbers in parentheses – (x-small, small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 6-14 – repeat row 5

Row 15 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)

Then, we crochet our carnation!

Ch 4 and loop to make a ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), 11 sc in the ring.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (12 sc)

Row 2 – working in BL of Row 1, ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this row), sc in each st all the way around.  Join with sl st to first sc.  (12 sc)

Row 3 – working in BL of Row 2, ch 8, sc in the next st, the repeat {ch 8, sc in the BL of the next st} 11 times.  Then ch 8 and sc into the FL of first st of Row 2. 

Row 4 – working in FL of Row 2, ch 8, sc in the FL of the next st, the repeat {ch 8, sc in the FL of the next st} 11 times.  Then ch 8 and sc into the FL of first st of Row 1. 

Row 5 – working in FL of Row 1, ch 8, sc in the FL of the next st, the repeat {ch 8, sc in the FL of the next st} 11 times.  Fasten off.

Sew flower onto beanie were you see fit. We like ours to the side over Rows 8-14.
