
First, you start off making our basic beanie with a stripe of contrast color:
Stitches used:
ch- chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st – stitch
Hat Sizes:
X-small – 8” long and 17” flat circumference
Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference
Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference
Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference
Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle.
Follow sizing by order of number in parentheses – (x-small, small, medium, large)
Starting with BASE COLOR of yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 (12,13,14) dc into the ring. Join with sl st to first dc (12,13,14,15 dc)
Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end. Join with sl st to first dc. (24, 26, 28, 30 dc)
Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (36, 39, 42, 45 dc)
Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end. Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)
Row 6-10 – repeat row 5
Row 11-12 – CHANGE TO ACCENT COLOR – repeat row 5
Row 13-14 – CHANGE BACK TO BASE COLOR – repeat row 5
Row 15 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
And now for our basic two tiered petal flower:

Ch 4 and loop to make a ring
Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as the first sc in this row), 5 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to first sc. (6 sc)
Row 2 – working the FL of Row 1, ch 2 (this counts as the first sc of this row), 5 dc in the next st, then repeat {sc in the next st, 5 dc in the next st} two more times. Join with sl st to first sc. (3 petals)
Row 3 – working the BL of Row 1, ch 2, 2sc in the first bl st, 2 sc in each st all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc. (12 sc)
Row 4 – ch 1, sc in the first st, 5 dc in the next st, then repeat {sc in the next st, 5 dc in the next st} all the way around. Join with sl st to first sc and fasten off. (6 petals)
