Sock Monkey Beanie

This beanie is made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Cafe, Cherry Red, and White

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle.

BEANIE (7” high and 15” flat diameter)

Using RED yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 (RED) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 (RED) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 (RED) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 (RED) – working in the FL of Row 3, ch 1, then hdc in the FL of each st of the row below.  (36 hdc)  Change to LIGHT BROWN yarn.

Row 5 (LIGHT BROWN) – working in the BL of Row 3, ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 6 (LIGHT BROWN) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 7-8 (LIGHT BROWN) – repeat row 6  (44 dc)  Change to WHITE yarn at the end of Row 8.

Row 9 (WHITE) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc.  (44 sc)  Change to RED yarn.

Row 10 (RED) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)  Change to WHITE yarn.

Row 11 (WHITE) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc.  (44 sc)  Change to LIGHT BROWN yarn

Row 12 (LIGHT BROWN) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 13 (LIGHT BROWN) – ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc of the row), hdc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first hdc and fasten off.  (44 hdc)

EARS (make 2 in LIGHT BROWN)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc in this row), 11 dc in the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc in this row), dc in each stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to the first dc and fasten off, leaving a long strand for sewing.  (12 dc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew ears between Rows 5-6
  • Cut 20 strands of 3 inch yarn in RED.  Tie on to top of Row 1 as a pom pom
