Monkey Beanie

This beanie was made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Coffee and Buff

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in BROWN  (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

EARS (Make 2) 

Using BROWN yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this round) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc in this row), dc in each stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to the first dc and fasten off, leaving a long strand for sewing.  (12 dc)

FACE (Make 1)

Using BEIGE yarn, Ch 18

Row 1 – counting the first 3 ch as the first dc of this row, dc in 4th ch from the hook and into each ch all the way across.  (15 dc)  TURN

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way across.  (15 dc)  TURN

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way across.  Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (15 dc)

EYE ROUNDS (Make 2)

Using BEIGE yarn, ch 4 and loop to make a ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), 6 dc into the ring.  (7 dc)  TURN

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row, dc into same st as joining, 2 dc in each st.  Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  (14 dc)

NOSE (Make 1)

Ch 4.  This piece is made by working around this foundation row.

Row 1 – counting the first 2 ch as the first hdc of this row, hdc into the 3rd ch from hook, 3 hdc into the next ch, then working below the foundation row, 2 hdc into the next ch.  Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing (6 hdc)

Putting it together:

  • Sew ears between Rows 5-6
  • Sew face over Rows 8-10
  • Sew eye rounds over 5-7, symmetrically, on top of the face.
  • Sew the nose at center of the face, equidistant from each eye round
  • Puffy paint eyes to center of the eye round.
