Smooth and Shiny Waves Beanie (thick)

This beanie is made with Red Heart Soft Essentials yarn in Maritime Stripes

This beanie is made with wave stitches in the body of the hat.

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Hat Sizes:

Small – 8” long and 18” flat circumference

Medium – 8.5” long and 19” flat circumference

Large – 8.5” long and 20” flat circumference

Using size 5 yarn (bulky yarn) with a L-11 (8 mm) needle.  

Follow sizing by number in parentheses – (small, medium, large)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 9,(10,11)  dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (10,11,12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (20, 22, 24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (30, 33, 36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 2 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), dc in the next stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  Join with sl st to first dc.  (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), 3 dc in the same st as joining, sk 2 st, sc in the next st, then {ch 2 (this counts as the first dc of this row), 3 dc in the same st, sk 2 st, sc in the next st} all the way around.  Ch 2 and join with sl st to the first dc. (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 7 – ch 1 and sc in the first st of the row below, ch 3, sc on the top of the first dc of the next wave, then {ch 3, sc on the top of the first dc of the next wave} all the way around.  Sc in the last ch 2 and join with sl st to the first dc.   (40, 44, 48 dc)

Row 8-11 (for S) and Row 8-13 (for M and L) – repeat Rows 6 and 7.  (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 12 (for S) and Row 14 (for M and L) ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in next stitch all the way around.  Join with sl st to first dc.  Join with sl st to first dc (48, 52, 56, 60 dc)

Row 13 (for XS and S) and Row 15 (for M and L) – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (48, 52, 56, 60 sc)
