Acorn Beanie

This beanie is made with Caron One Pound yarn in Espresso, Cream and Kelly Green

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

puff stitch – ch 2, yarn over and insert hook to the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over and interest hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through, and then pull yarn through all 7 loops

picot stitch – sc into the stitch, ch 3, then loop hook into first ch and sc into the same stitch

2sctog – hook into st, YO and pull through loop, YO and insert hook into next st, YO and pull through loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through last 3 loops.

sk st – skip stitch

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a K-10.5 (6.5 mm) needle in TAUPE (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (7” high and 16” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 5 dc into the ring.  (6 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), and then dc in each st all around.  (6 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 6 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 7 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 8-11- repeat row 5 (44 dc)

Row 12 (change to BROWN yarn) – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), ch 1 and sk st below, puff stitch into the next st, then repeat {ch 1 and sk st below, puff st into the next st} all the way around. Join with sl st to the first dc. (44 dc)

Row 13– ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the ch1 space below, then repeat {ch 1 and sk st below, puff st into the next ch 1 st} all the way around. Join with sl st to the first dc. (44 dc)

Row 14 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end. Join with st to the first sc and fasten off. (44 dc)

LEAF (make 1 in GREEN)

Ch 5 

Row 1 – counting first 2 ch as the first sc of this row, 2 sc in the 3rd ch from the start, 1 sc in the next ch, 6 sc in the last ch, then working around the other side of the starting chain, 1 sc in the next ch, 3 sc in the last ch. Join with sl st to the first sc.  (14 sc)

Row 2 – ch 1 (this counts as the first sc of this row), sc in the next 2 st, picot in the next st, 2sctog over next 2 st, picot in the next st, 2sctog over next 2 st, picot in the next st, 2sctog over the next 2 sc,  sc in the next 2 st. Join with sl st to the first sc, fasten off, and leave a long tail for sewing. (11 stitches)

Putting it together:

  • – attach leaf between Rows 2-3.
