Hamster Beanie

Stitches used:

ch- chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

Using size 4 yarn (worsted or medium weight yarn) with a J-10 (6.0 mm) needle in ORANGE or BROWN  (or color of your choice)

BEANIE (6.5” high and 15” flat diameter)

Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc) 

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in same st as joining, dc in the next 3 st, then repeat {2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st dc in the next 3 st} to the end.  Join with sl st to first dc (44 dc)

Row 5 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st all the way around to the end. Join with sl st to first dc. (44 dc)

Row 6-10 – repeat row 5  (44 dc)

Row 11 – ch 1 (this counts as your first sc of the row), sc in each stitch all the way around to the end.  Join with st to the first sc and fasten off.  (44 dc)

CHEEKS (Make 2)

In WHITE yarn, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring.

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row) and then 11 dc into the ring.  Join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in the same st as joining, and then 2 dc in each stitch all the way around to end.  Join with sl st to first dc.   Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing.  (24 dc) 

SNOUT (Make 1)

In WHITE yarn, ch 13

Row 1 – The first 2 ch of the base counts as your first dc of this row, dc in each st to the end.  Turn to work in opposite direction for the next row.   (11 dc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st to the end.  Turn to work in opposite direction for the next row.  (11 dc)

Row 3 – ch 2 (this counts as your first dc of this row), dc in each st to the end.  Fasten off and leave a long strand for sewing.  (11 dc)

EARS (Make 2 in PINK and 2 in ORANGE/BROWN) 

In PINK, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this round) and then 5 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (6 sc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this round), 2 sc in each st all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc.  Fasten off.  (12 sc)

In ORANGE/BROWN, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

In PINK, Ch 4 and loop to make a magic ring

Row 1 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this round) and then 5 sc into the ring.  Join with sl st to the first dc.  (6 sc)

Row 2 – ch 2 (this counts as your first sc of this round), 2 sc in each st all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc.  DO NOT FASTEN OFF.  (12 sc)

Row 3 – Joining PINK ear with ORANGE/BROWN ear, ch 2 and then sc through both ears all the way around.  Fasten off and leave long strand for sewing.

NOSE (Make 1)

Using Pink yarn, ch 4

Row 1 – count first 3 as your first sc and and starting ch, working all around the chain, sc in starting ch, 3 ch in the next ch, then sc in first ch.  Fasten off and leave long strand for sewing. 

Putting it together:

  • Sew Ears in between Rows 2-3 on each side
  • Sew Snout centered between the ears at Rows 8-10
  • Sew Cheeks on the each side of snout at Rows 7-10
  • Sew Nose at top center of the snout
  • Puffy paint eyes as you see fit!
